Ballet at GDA

At GDA we follow the most widely recognised and highly respected syllabi with the Royal Academy of Dance.

Ballet is recommended for all dance students, it not only benefits the dancer’s physical ability with strength, posture (there for protecting the body), but it also teaches discipline and etiquette in the dance environment, which guides the student in everyday life as well.

Which Grade am I?

Pre-School - For children aged 3 until they start school.

Primary Trio - For children aged 4-7 yrs. This class also encorporates Modern and Tap.

Pre-Primary - For children that have just started school until they take an exam or are invited to move up to Primary.

Primary - For children aged 6+ until they take an exam or are invited to move up to Grade 1.

Grades 1 - 8 - For students aged 8+ until they take an exam or are invited to move up to the next grade. Students who are new to Ballet, they would start in Grade 1 for an assessment lesson, and then would be placed accordingly by their teacher.

Neo Classical - For students who take a graded Ballet class, grade 3 and above.

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) - For students who want to take their ballet training to another level.

Adult Ballet - For Adults of any level, whether you're a beginner, or have a background of dance.

Grades are not just based on age, but also previous dance experience and individual ability.

For new students - If you are unsure which Grade to select then please contact us for info, where you can be temporarily placed for assessment.

For existing students - Please select the grade you were most recently in unless you have had a successful exam result and/or have been asked to move to a different grade by Miss Wendy.

What do I wear?

If you are new to class, then please arrive dressed in clothing that you can move freely in, e.g., Leggings and a T-shirt. Bare feet are acceptable, hair must be secured away from the face. Please also bring water.

Uniform must be worn in classes (with the exception of Adult Classes) after your trial ends, which can be purchased from our online store or our on-site dance shop. This consists of Leotard, tights/leggings/socks, Ballet shoes, and some additional extras for some grades. The colour of leotard also depends on which grade you are in, these details can be found in the uniform section of our website, or a member of staff can help you at the studio.
