Our Story

Generations Dance Academy was founded by our Principal, Wendy Burke, in 1990, originally known as the Wendy Burke School of Dance.

Wendy has been inspiring children for over 30 years, and with a lot of hard work and success, she moved in to our current studio facility in the centre of Huntingdon in 2012. This opened up endless possibilities...

The Wendy Burke School of Dance rebranded to Generations Dance Academy, Wendy created a fabulous team of teachers and admin staff, and is able to run over 50 classes a week in a wide range of genres.

'Generations Dance Academy' is the perfect name for many reasons - Wendy's daughter works at the studio too, and had recently started her own family who are also a big part of the school.

But also, as Wendy had her school for about 22 years at this point, she began to teach the children of the students she taught when they were young. She has literally been teaching for generations! - so the name was perfect!

Wendy has continued to grow and expand even further; one of Cambridgeshire's biggest and leading dance schools now has three dance studios, a cafe, a dance shop and a micro-gym, all within the Generations Dance Academy site in the centre of Huntingdon town.

Not only are we all extremely proud to be a part of an amazing dance school, but our students and parents are proud to be a part of our #gdafamily too.

Owner and Principal

At GDA, we pride ourselves on our #gdafamily vibe.

Generations Dance Academy is a family run dance school; everybody is included equally and all have equal opportunities.

We have an amazing community amongst our teachers, students and parents; everyone looks out for one another and together we make long lasting friendships and memories.

Why Generations Dance Academy?

'You know you're doing something right when the students you once taught when they were young start bringing their own children to dance with you!'

Our studio is situated in the centre of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, offering over 700 Square metres of space and three studios with sprung floors and air conditioning. We have a fabulous café and waiting area, 'The Barre', a private gym 'The Power House', and our own on-site dance shop, the 'Dancewear Boutique'.

Our School offers a wide range of genres, including Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Acro, Street, Musical Theatre and more. Our highly trained, qualified and experienced teachers are all Enhanced DBS checked and first aid trained. We are trained and registered to teach with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD), Acrobatic Arts, idDance, Progressive Ballet Technique and Alixa Flexibility.

All of our teachers have relevant qualifications and experience, up-to-date DBS certificates, are first aid trained and insured.

A huge part of our selection process is 'gut feeling'. We know, that if our teachers share the same passion for teaching and nurturing children as we do, then they will fit in with our #gdafamily perfectly.

We encourage creativity, fundamental movement skills, development of coordination, body alignment, confidence and, of course, lots of fun!

If you're looking for a dance school that gives you/your child confidence, a sense of belonging, to learn new skills, to become aware of their bodies and how to take care of them, then we are the school for you. And if this hobby grows in to a passion and they want to develop in to a professional dancers, then our highly trained teachers know just how to train you and guide you in the right direction, and hopefully prepare you for full-time vocational training when you leave school.

So, have you decided if you will be the next new member of our #gdafamily?
