Contemporary at GDA
Contemporary itself has many styles within the genre, primarily danced with freedom, making unusual movements and shapes, but also using highly disciplined technique. You will be surprised how tricky it is to find the balance between being free but maintaining the control!
Within our classes, we think it is especially important with these styles that the student is able to be creative themselves, so are often given the opportunity to work on their choreographic skills and use their imaginations.
Which class should I choose?
Junior Contemporary - For children aged 6-11 years, or until they are invited to move up to Senior class
Senior Contemporary - For children aged 11+
Adult Contemporary - For Adults who have a background of dance and reached a good standard in past.
Levels are not just based just on age, but also previous dance experience and individual ability.
For new students - If you are unsure which level to select then please contact us for info, where you can be temporarily placed for assessment.
For existing students - Please select the level you were most recently in unless you have invited to move to a different level by Miss Wendy.
What do I wear?
If you are new to class, then please arrive dressed in clothing that you can move freely in, e.g., Leggings and a T-shirt. Bare feet are acceptable, hair must be secured away from the face. Please also bring water.
Uniform must be worn in classes (with the exception of Adult Classes) after your trial ends, which can be purchased from our online store or our on-site dance shop. This consists of Leotard, tights/leggings and foot thongs/turners.
